Policy: principles ensuring governance
|
1) A definite course or method of action selected from among alternatives in light of given conditions to guide and determine present and future decisions
2) Organization-level rules governing acceptable use of resources, practices, and operational procedures
3) A deliberate plan of action to guide decisions and achieve a rational outcome
4) A statement of principles and/or values that mandate or constrain the performance of activities used in achieving institutional goals
5) An established course of action that must be followed

Regardless of how you define policy, you must have it. It provides a consistent approach to operational procedures that ensures the enterprise will function the same way day-in/day-out regardless of who executes those procedures. It brings predictability to your operations and REDUCES RISK! All too often we see partial policy scattered throughout the organization or we see policy that someone pulled off the web that has no relevance to the way the institution is run. It's policy for policy sake to make the examiners happy.
R.I.S.C. takes a practical approach to policy development. We assess your environment and develop policy that actually works within that environment. While many firms take a Best Practices approach to policy development, best practices for their own sake don't do anyone any good if they can't be executed and audited.
